On the Days the Future Feels Like a Distant Shore

Deeply breathe in and out of all the confusion that is engulfing you, and remind yourself that clarity will come. In your eagerness for help and clarification, you may be waiting for someone who will quietly take you by the hand and lead you in the right direction; however, the silence may surprise you with its length. It is not that easy to figure out the relationship between your past and your future selves.

This change is like a new you, but you don’t know it yet, like walking in a forest without a map in a place you’ve never been before. You are putting away your old dreams while deciding which ones to keep and which to throw away. You may not be showing it to the world, but you are in the tough phase of rebuilding, where the real work is going on underneath.

This lack of visible results may make you doubt your existence: “Do I really have the power?” It may look like everything is changing below ground, but this delicate moment is where your real nature starts to show. Although you strongly desire a clear plan and an endpoint, you keep living and taking those small, quiet steps. Faith is what helps you to get through this haze and to come day after day, even without all the answers, while still trusting that something good will result from it all.

Sometimes, it’s merely a matter of deciding to keep going despite the doubts that have not yet disappeared. Resilience means quietly having the bravery to continue your efforts when you cannot be sure of anything, and that you will not be rewarded for your labor. It shows itself in tiny moments, such as when you make the decision to get out of bed although you would rather stay hidden, or when you choose to experience your feelings again after a period of numbness. It is the day on which, despite your sorrow, you take hold of something simple and comforting.

Such moments are the beginnings of roots that grow deep beneath the surface. You may not perceive them, but they are there, supporting you for what lies ahead. The future is sometimes made more feasible by only one profoundly significant talk. When your objective is far away, don’t push yourself to understand everything at once. Don’t think of everything at once; rather, concentrate on the doable things like the breath you take, the day ahead of you, and the present moment.

There is no necessity for tearing down and rebuilding the whole of your life simultaneously; all that is required of you is taking that next sincere step. You will have accomplished something if you only take one step forward. It is a show of faith if you take a deep breath. It is a start of transformation if you demonstrate perseverance in just one action.

The day will come when this period of time that you thought would never end and in which you felt empty will be nothing but a distant memory, and you will see that it was the opposite. It was the time when you were becoming gradually strong enough to live the life that was not far away, waiting for you.
